1 Scope
1.1 General
1.1.1 This Standard covers air admittance valves for high back pressure environments intended for applications in systems such as pumped waste and specifies requirements for materials, physical characteristics, performance testing, and markings.
1.1.2 Air admittance valves covered by this Standard are compliant with the requirements of either ASSE 1050 or ASSE 1051 with the addition of an extreme 1034 kPa (150 psi) back pressure test, and increased air-flow rate, for applications in potentially high pressure systems.
Note: The manufacturers should specify which standard, ASSE 1050 or ASSE 1051, is applicable for compliance of the air admittance valve under evaluation, based on the intended application of the device for either stacked or individual branch type sanitary drainage systems.
1.1.3 A example component diagram of air admittance valves covered by this standard is shown in Figure 1. The air admittance valve assembly may include
(a) Housing;
(b) Rotary valve (Steel ball covered with FKM shell);
(c) Rail extensions and rail guide system;
(d) Gasket Seals; and
(e) Screens.
1.1.4 One example of an air flow diagram for air admittance valves covered by this standard is shown in Figure 2.
