This document is intended to serve as a basic design and installation guideline. The goal is to provide recommended practices that will:
- provide minimum requirements for the safe design, installation and construction of fueling systems for generators, stationary diesel engines, oil burners and all related accessories to minimize potential catastrophic events (e.g., fire and explosions);
- promote reliable and safe installation of fueling systems;
- reduce the possibility of fueling system failure;
- avoid needlessly increasing installation and maintenance costs;
- increase awareness of the applicable codes, industry standards and regulations;
- minimize environmental impacts and hazards;
- offer guidance for users of this document and serve as a vehicle to foster ocmmunications between all involved parties.
- endorse or recommend specific suppliers or manufacturers;
- discourage the development of improved designs, equipment or maintenance procedures.
These recommended practices only address stystems that operate on distillate fuels, such as diesel or #2 fuel oil. Systems using gasoline, natural gas, compressed natural gas, liquefied petroleum gases and/or any other products are not included in this document.
